WHAT TO DO BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT
No referral needed.
If you do not have a referral from a Doctor, you are a Private client, and hence you don’t have to do anything.
However, should you have a referral from your Doctor (i.e. you are a Medicare client) it is advisable that you ensure it is a VALID referral. We would strongly suggest you:
1. Speak with your GP today about any mental health concerns and he may refer you to psychological services with a mental health care plan. This will mean you’re eligible for a Medicare rebate of $89.65 per session.
10 initial services with a 6 week review.
10 additional services after you’ve used 10.
2. If you’re not sure whether you’ve done this already ring Medicare at P: 132 011 to check that a Mental Health Care Plan has been registered on your name.
The benefit of a GP referral is that you can use your mental health care plan to receive a government rebate lowering your out of pocket costs per session.
3. Fax or Email a copy of your mental health care plan prior to your first appointment.
